The Compassionate Use Act of 1996
The Compassionate Use Act of 1996, also known as Proposition 215, legalized the use of medical cannabis in the state of California. Any person who has been diagnosed with a chronic or debilitating medical condition that produces one or more of the following conditions is eligible to receive a medical cannabis card:
Senate Bill 420
In 2003, California became the first state to pass a medical marijuana law with the approval of Senate Bill 420. The bill set forth a number of regulations regarding the use and cultivation of medical marijuana, including the creation of a medical marijuana ID card system.
