How to Make Cannabis Coconut Oil

This step by step guide will show you how to make cannabis coconut oil. Cannabis coconut oil is a great way to consume cannabis. It can be used in recipes or taken alone. Cannabis coconut oil is also said to have many health benefits.

Step One: Gather Your Materials

In order to make your cannabis coconut oil, you will need the following materials:
-1 cup of ground cannabis
-1 cup of coconut oil
-1 Crockpot
-Cheesecloth
-Rubber band
-Strainer or funnel

Step Two: Decarboxylate the Cannabis
Raw cannabis contains a bunch of THCA, which is not psychoactive. In order to turn the THCA into THC (which is psychoactive), we need to decarboxylate (or activate) the cannabis. The easiest way to do this is by baking it in your oven.
Preheat your oven to 240 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread your ground cannabis on a baking sheet, and bake for 50 minutes. This will activate the THC in the plant material.
You can also decarboxylate your cannabis using a dehydrator set at 105 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour, but we find that the oven method is easier and less chances for error.

Step Three: Combine Ingredients in Crockpot
After you’ve decarboxylated your ground cannabis, add it to the crockpot along with the coconut oil. Stir well to combine.

Step Four: Cook on Low Heat
Place the lid on your crockpot, and set it to “low” heat. Let it cook for 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally. Cooking on low heat ensures that you don’t damage any of the THC in the process.

Step Five: Strain Plant Material
After 6-8 hours, your coconut oil should be green and have a strong weed smell. At this point, it’s time to strain out the plant material from the oil. To do this, line a strainer with cheesecloth and place it over a clean bowl or jar . Slowly pour your cannabis coconut oil mixture into the strainer, letting it filter through into the bowl below. Once all of the mixture has been strained, discard the cheesecloth (with all of the plant material) and save your now green Cannabis Coconut Oil in a sealed container .

Step Two: Decarb the Cannabis

Preheat your oven to 245 degrees F. Break your cannabis up into small pieces and spread it out onto the baking sheet. Bake for 40-60 minutes, stirring every 20 minutes. The cannabis is done decarbing when it is darker in color and crumbly to the touch. Remove from oven and let cool.

Step Three: Infuse the Coconut Oil

Once the cannabis is nicely toasted, add it to the coconut oil in the saucepan. Gently stir the mixture and allow it to infuse for about 30 minutes on low heat. You might need to occasionally give it a good stir to make sure everything is mixing together nicely.
Once infused, turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. You can then strain it using a cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove any lingering plant matter.
Once strained, your cannabis coconut oil is now ready to use!

Step Four: Filter the Oil

After the mixture has cooled, it’s time to filter out the plant material. Line a mesh strainer with cheesecloth, and place it over a jar or measuring cup. Slowly pour the mixture through the strainer, allowing all of the oil to drip through. Be sure to squeeze the cheesecloth to get all of the oil out. Once filtered, your cannabis coconut oil is ready to use!

Step Five: Store Your Oil Properly

Now that you have your finished product, it’s important to store it properly to maintain both its potency and flavor. Cannabis coconut oil has a relatively long shelf life compared to other marijuana products, but if not stored correctly it will deteriorate quickly.

The best way to store cannabis coconut oil is in a dark glass jar in a cool, dark place like a pantry or cupboard. You can also put the jar in the fridge, which will prolong its shelf life even further. Just make sure to take it out of the fridge an hour or so before you plan on using it so it has time to come back to room temperature.
