Gather your supplies
To make your cannabis cream, you will need the following supplies:
-1/4 cup of coconut oil
-1/4 cup of almond oil
-1/2 ounce of beeswax
-1/4 teaspoon of vitamin E oil
-1/2 cup of water
-1 tablespoon of ground cannabis
Decarboxylate your cannabis
As with any cannabis topical, you’ll need to start with decarboxylated cannabis. Decarboxylation is the process of heating your cannabis to convert THCa into THC, the compound that gets you high.
There are a few ways to decarboxylate your cannabis. The simplest method is to spread your ground cannabis on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake it in an oven at 240°F for about 40 minutes. This is the method we recommend, as it’s the most foolproof.
Once your cannabis is decarboxylated, you’re ready to make your topical!
Infuse your cream
The process of infusing cream with cannabis is very similar to making a cannabutter or oil. You will need to decarboxylate your cannabis first by cooking it in the oven at 245 degrees Fahrenheit for about 40 minutes. This process activates the THC in the plant so that it will be effective when applied topically.
Once your cannabis is decarboxylated, you will need to infuse it into a carrier oil. The most common carrier oils for topical application are coconut oil, jojoba oil, and olive oil. You can use any of these, or a combination, depending on your preferences.
Place your decarboxylated cannabis and carrier oil(s) into a Crockpot set on the low setting. You will need to let the mixture infuse for at least four hours, but longer is better. After four hours, turn off the Crockpot and let the mixture cool before straining out the plant matter.
Your infused cream is now ready to use! You can apply it directly to any areas that are experiencing pain or inflammation. Store your cream in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and keep it in a cool, dark place when you’re not using it. It should last for several weeks.
Apply the cream to your skin
To use the cannabis cream, simply apply a small amount to the affected area of your skin. Gently massage it in until it is fully absorbed. You can reapply the cream as needed to maintain pain relief throughout the day.
