Introduction
Cannabis gummies are a delicious and easy way to consume marijuana. They can be made with either THC or CBD extract, or a combination of the two. However, making gummies at home can be a bit of a process. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know in order to make your own cannabis gummies.
What You Will Need
-1 cup of fruit juice or puree (canned fruits work great)
-1/2 cup of water
-1 package of gelatin (unflavored)
-1/4 teaspoon of citric acid (this helps with gummy texture and also prevents mold)
-1/2 cup of your favorite liquid cannabis tincture OR 1/2 gram of hash oil, honey oil, BHO, etc. (see note below*)
*Note: If you want to make strong gummies, use 1 gram of hash oil, honey oil, BHO, etc. If you want to make weaker gummies, use 1/4 gram. I generally don’t recommend using anything more potent than BHO as it can be volatile and potentially dangerous to work with.
Making the Gummies
Ingredients:
-1/2 cup of fruit juice or drink of your choice
-1/4 cup of gelatin
-1 teaspoon of citric acid
-1/4 cup of water
-1/2 cup of sugar
-1 teaspoon of oil (coconut or canola work well)
-1 gram (1000mg) of cannabis extract or concentrate*
Instructions:
-Start by mixing together the fruit juice, gelatin, and citric acid in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until the gelatin is dissolved.
-Add the water and sugar, and continue to stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.
-Turn off the heat, and add the oil and cannabis extract or concentrate. Stir until everything is mixed together well.
-Pour mixture into a silicone mold, and place in the fridge for about an hour so they can set.
-Enjoy your homemade gummies!
Setting the Gummies
Now that you have your gummy bear mold and infused coconut oil, it’s time to make some gummies!
Start by mixing together the gelatin and cold water in a small bowl and set it aside to bloom. This just means that you’re letting the gelatin absorb the water so that it can become activated.
While the gelatin is blooming, heat the infused coconut oil and sugar in a small saucepan over low heat. You don’t want to let the mixture come to a boil, but you do want to heat it until all of the sugar has dissolved.
Once the sugar has dissolved, take the pan off of the heat and add in the bloomed gelatin. Stir until everything is well combined, then carefully pour the mixture into your gummy bear mold.
Place the mold in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes, or until the gummies have set. Once they’re set, you can pop them out of the mold and enjoy!
Enjoying Your Gummies
Assuming you’ve followed the recipe to a T, your gummies should be perfect! If they’re not quite as firm as you’d like, simply pop them back in the fridge for a bit longer. But if they seem overly hard or brittle, this means you’ve overcooked your gummies and they’re not going to taste nearly as good.
Once your gummies are finished, it’s time to enjoy! Start by taking just one to see how it affects you, since edibles can sometimes be very potent. If you find that one gummy isn’t enough, feel free to have another – but remember to go slow and give yourself time to feel the effects before having more.
