Cannabis hash, also known as hashish, is a concentrated form of cannabis made by compressing and separating the trichomes from the plant. It can be smoked, eaten, or vaporized and is more potent than regular cannabis. Hash can also be used to make edibles or topicals. In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know about cannabis hash.
What is Cannabis Hash?
Cannabis hash is a concentrated form of cannabis that contains high levels of THC. Hashish can be smoked, vaporized, consumed orally, or used in topical form. It is made from the leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant and is typically brown or black in color. Hashish is either pressed into cakes or sold as a powder.
How is Cannabis Hash Made?
Cannabis hash is made by separating the trichomes—the resin glands that produce THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids and terpenes—from the rest of the plant material. The trichomes are then collected and pressed into a solid, sticky mass.
There are a few different ways to make cannabis hash, but the most common method is called dry sifting. To dry sift weed, growers will put their cannabis trim or buds through a screen with very small holes. This separates the trichomes from the plant matter, which fall through the screen onto a collection surface below.
Once enough trichomes have been collected, they’re pressed into a solid block using heat and pressure. The final product is a compact puck of hash that can vary in color from light brown to black.
Hash can also be made using ice water to separate the trichomes from the plant material. This method is called bubble hash (or ice hash), and it tends to produce a higher-quality product because it’s less likely to damage the trichomes during processing.
To make bubble hash, growers will mix their trim or buds with ice water and then filter it through progressively smaller micron screens. This separates the trichomes from the plant matter, which settle to the bottom of each container as they’re filtered out.
Once all of the liquid has been filtered, the resulting “slurry” is poured into a larger container where it’s allowed to settle overnight. The following day, growers will drain off the water, revealing a layer of wet hash at the bottom of the container. This hash is then dried and pressurized into its final form.
How to Use Cannabis Hash
