Alaska is the third state in the US to allow retail sales of recreational marijuana, after Colorado and Washington. It’s also the first state to do so through a system of private businesses, rather than state-run stores.
The opening of Alaska’s cannabis industry comes as the public opinion on marijuana has shifted dramatically in recent years. A majority of Americans now support legalization, and several states are considering changing their laws in the near future.
Alaska’s retail marijuana stores are subject to strict regulations, including a ban on advertising and a requirement that all products be tested for potency and purity. Officials say they expect the industry to generate millions of dollars in tax revenue each year.
California

So far, the rollout of retail sales has been fairly smooth, with dispensaries reporting strong demand and steady business. Nonetheless, Maine’s recreational cannabis industry is up and running and appears to be off to a strong start!

The Sixth State to Legalize Recreational Use, Michigan Opens Its Doors
On December 6, 2018, Michigan became the tenth state in the US to legalize recreational cannabis use. The state’s legalization process was conducted through a ballot initiative, with 56% of voters approving the measure. This made Michigan the sixth state to have legalized recreational cannabis use, after Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and California.
The new law went into effect on December 8, 2018. It allows adults aged 21 and over to possess and use cannabis for recreational purposes. Under the law, adults are allowed to possess up to 2.5 ounces (71 grams) of dried cannabis in public and up to 10 ounces (283 grams) at home. Cannabis cultivators are allowed to grow up to 12 plants per household. The law also establishes a system of licensed dispensaries where adults can purchase cannabis products.
The legalization of recreational cannabis use in Michigan is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s economy. Cannabis industry analysts estimates that the state’s legal market could be worth anywhere from $1 billion to $2 billion by 2020. This would create thousands of jobs and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue for the state.
Nevada
On July 1, 2017, the state of Nevada began allowing retail sales of recreational cannabis to adults over the age of 21. The state had already been allowing medical cannabis sales since 2015.
Nevada is one of a handful of states that have legalized both medical and recreational cannabis use. Other states that have done so include Colorado, Washington, and Oregon. California is set to begin retail sales of recreational cannabis on January 1, 2018.
The state of Nevada has established a regulatory framework for the retail sale of cannabis that is similar to the regulations that are in place for the sale of alcohol. Cannabis retailers must obtain a license from the state in order to operate, and they are subject to strict rules and regulations regarding the sale of cannabis products.
Currently, there are only a limited number of retail cannabis stores operating in Nevada. However, it is expected that the number of stores will increase rapidly in the coming months as more licenses are approved by the state.

However, it’s important to note that smoking cannabis in public is still illegal.
So what does the future hold for Oregon’s recreational cannabis industry? Experts say that it has the potential to be a billion-dollar industry, with sales reaching as high as $1.3 billion by 2020. And with tax revenue from sales expected to go towards schools, law enforcement, and drug prevention programs, there’s no doubt that the legalizaion of recreational cannabis will have a positive impact on Oregon.
